Geographical Information

Eritrea is situating along the red sea (around 1 200 km of coast). Eritrea is as large as England with an area of more than 46 000 square miles. This includes more than 350 islands of which some 210, in the area of Dahlak archipelago.

Eritrea shares its borders with Sudan in the North West, Ethiopia and Djibouti in the south and the read sea in the east.

Regarding the climate, Eritrea can be divided into three major climatic zones:
  • Central Highlands with the hottest month in May, winter between December and February when lows can be near freezing point at night.
  • The coastal region is extremely hot from June to September with daily temperature from 40 to 50°C. Winter temperatures range from 21-35 ° C and there is rain during the winter months
  • In the western lowlands the high temperatures in the hottest months, April to June, comparable to those at the coast. December is the coldest month
